LAURYN LEVETTE
ARTIST
“My work explores humanity through psychological space and personal narratives to evoke a visceral viewing experience through vivid color, fluid shape, and distorted perspective. The figures in my paintings are actively engaged in rest and leisure to exercise agency and resist capitalist standards which mechanize Black people. I base my practice off of Afrofuturism to find ways to liberate myself from the restrictive effects of systemic racism that Black folks face as a collective.”
