SIERRA CARELOCK
GRAPHIC DESIGNER, ILLUSTRATOR, CREATIVE DIRECTOR
“The name "Of The Dust" comes from Genesis 2:7 KJV when God created man. I wanted this piece to be a modern depiction of Adam and Eve. This project was inspired by the trailer for Beyoncé’s film “Black is King”. I just watched the full trailer for the film... With the climate of everything going on in the country I just wanted to show the beauty of my people, people that look like me. Sometimes in media we aren’t depicted in the best light. That’s why I feel so strongly about diversity and diverse storytelling in creative areas. It’s important that everyone gets to tell their story, so people can see another viewpoint of life. This piece also has kind of a yin-yang influence. The woman is the day/ sunlight and the male represents night and the moon. I wanted to play with masculine and feminine colors and also include African face paint. Software: Adobe Fresco, Created Summer 2020.”
