Amir Khadar, WORKING NOT WORKING X WHERE ARE THE BLACK DESIGNERS

ILLUSTRATOR, artist

“This is a illustration of several Black women and femmes of various ages/representations meant to display the diversity and beauty of the African diaspora. It is inspired by the posters in hair salons. This is 1 of 16 illustrations I created for the Black Alliance for Just Immigration's (BAJI + I own all rights to the image) report on gender in Black immigrant communities. This specific image is meant to display the diversity & beauty of the African Diaspora.”

BLACK & SACRED

“I was stuck in between "divine" & "sacred" because the way I occupy my blackness, gender, religion, and body is all intertwined and very sacred to me. I think as black people we are asked to forge many internal and external relationships between self and communitty, and through creating those bridges we also create art. I think that this connection to creation is divine and speaks to our resilience/joy/beauty/grit and all that.”
