“The Johnson Publishing Building was the first mid-rise office building in Chicago designed by a Black architect and occupied by a Black-owned company. It housed the offices of Ebony and Jet magazines, Fashion Fair Cosmetics, and others. To memorialize this space as a symbol of black achievement in America, I created a series of design representations. Among them is this "drawdel" of the office lobby, created using a combination of collage, modelmaking, and drawing. In 2017, the building was bought out and converted to luxury apartments.”
