“My artwork is a re-imagination of self-identity. As a black person who lived in Japan for 11 years, one of the negative aspects I experienced was constantly being put into confined boxes due to broad stereotypes. I started this series as a means to escape that. I wanted to see myself beyond reality and more in a world of fantasy.”
